During the COVID-19 pandemic, the net number of retail independent pharmacies nationwide increased. The recent increases in the number of stores continued overall five- and ten-year trends of an increasing number of independent pharmacies in the United States. Use the interactive map below to show data for each state. 

Key Findings:

• The number of independent pharmacies increased by 449 from January 2020 to January 2021.
• 33 states had more independent pharmacies in 2020, while 15 states had fewer.
• The median number of new independent pharmacies per state was 9 and the median number of closures was 3.
