PBMs Affirm Readiness to Assist Patients with COVID-19

(Washington, D.C.) — Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) President and CEO JC Scott issued a letter to the Trump Administration’s COVID-19 Task Force outlining pharmacy benefit managers’ (PBMs) commitment to helping Americans get needed prescription drugs during a COVID-19 outbreak. PBMs also stand ready to support federal, state, and local public health agencies as they fight COVID-19.

“We recognize the essential role that prescription drugs play in helping hundreds of millions of Americans maintain good health,” said Scott. “While COVID-19 itself is a new public health challenge, our companies have substantial experience in helping patients get the drugs they need in times of crisis. In the event a national emergency is declared, pharmacy benefits managers are fully prepared to help patients obtain early prescription refills, help patients identify covered therapeutic alternatives if a drug is in short supply, and address pharmacy access barriers.”
