Employers spoke, and PBMs responded.
Over time, PBMs have answered the call of employers seeking more data by providing analytics that empower them to make more informed coverage choices. This responsiveness, along with an evolution in the way PBMs do business and new federal law, means PBMs are the most transparent segment of the prescription drug supply chain.
A recent survey of more than 1,000 small and large businesses found that employers are overwhelmingly satisfied with their PBM’s ability to provide actionable, detailed information and the level of transparency they want.

PBMs provide employers, unions, and government programs with comprehensive reports that show drug discounts, present specific drug utilization, and outline how their dollars are being spent on prescription drugs. Employers and others can also audit their PBM to ensure they receive the data they need.
The Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) that the president signed in February carried PBM transparency even further and makes all PBMs transparent PBMs.
