Today, the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) released the “Path to Patient Affordability,” a policy platform with six ways federal and state policymakers can help make the health care system more affordable for patients.

Market-responsive innovation and landmark PBM reform have reshaped the industry in recent years. Yet, prescription drug prices remain far too high for too many patients. Federal and state policymakers should now turn their attention to the ideas in the Path to Patient Affordability, which is focused on supporting patients, promoting pharmacy stability, and lowering the prices of prescription drugs.

Commenting on the release, David Marin, President and CEO of PCMA, made the following statement:

“We can make health care more affordable for patients. The solutions exist and we want to be part of the solution. Our policy platform provides Congress with the roadmap to affordability. The policies we’re laying out target key pain points in the supply chain and advance practical, actionable solutions.

“Every policy in this platform is grounded in one objective: helping patients get the medications they need at a price they can afford. Affordability won’t happen by accident. It will require a system that promotes competition, encourages innovation, and demands transparency across the supply chain.”
