(Washington, D.C.) — The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) released the following statement following the Trump Administration’s biosimilar announcement.

“America’s pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) commend the Trump Administration’s dedication to lowering prescription drug costs. Today’s announcement to remove the unnecessary step of providing studies for biosimilar interchangeability is a watershed moment for making biosimilars more accessible for patients.

“PBMs unequivocally support a strong biosimilar market and lower drug prices for every patient. In the absence of drug companies lowering list prices on their own, it is critical to remove regulatory barriers that make it harder for patients to access biosimilars.

“While the Administration is clearly working to lower drug costs, Congress should do its part by eliminating the interchangeability designation entirely.”
