(Washington, D.C.) — Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) President and CEO JC Scott released the following statement on a new advertising campaign against Section 306 in S. 1895, the “Lower Health Care Costs Act:”

“As the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee readies to vote tomorrow on S. 1895, PCMA’s new ad campaign highlights provisions in the legislation that will let the government limit choices in private-sector drug benefit contracts. Restricting health care coverage choices for employers, unions, and other health plan sponsors prevents them from designing drug benefits that meet the clinical needs of their enrollees.

Pharmacy benefit managers have achieved an overall low prescription drug cost trend by leveraging competition among drug manufacturers and drugstores. At the same time, we recognize that drug manufacturer prices can be a financial burden for too many Americans, and we look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to reduce these costs through greater competition and greater transparency.”
