Alaska Weekly Update 4.15.24

In Review: The proposed amendment to HB 226 (omnibus + POS added) continues to face opposition from labor and business sectors, with only 30 days remaining until the legislative session adjourns. Amendment (U) introduces significant changes; it no longer directly affects ERISA plans or Alaskacare but still influences aspects of plan design. Furthermore, it introduces new regulations governing reimbursements, grievance and appeal processes, and independent reviews. Additionally, the language concerning POS rebates from SB 124 has been integrated into HB 226. The opposition groups largely perceive the bill as having deteriorated rather than improved.

Up Next: HB 226 will be heard in House Labor and Commerce on April 15 and has a chance of advancing out of the committee during Monday’s session and, if passed, will move to the House Finance Committee.
