In Review: Last week, PCMA counsel attended a stakeholder meeting organized by Senator Janae Shamp (R) to discuss her draft legislation addressing frozen formularies, affiliate steering, and auditing requirements. The proponents of the bills focused discussions on the frozen formulary mandates, stating that their intentions were to prevent mid-year drug changes for patients who have chronic diseases that are stable on the current drug. PCMA expressed our concerns with the bill’s current language and the overly broad mandates that could be addressed through minor changes to the existing prior authorization and step therapy statutes.
