Connecticut Weekly Update 3.4.24

In Review: PCMA testified in the Joint Public Health Committee to discuss a prior authorization bill and a ban on step therapy. The prior authorization bill would require a carrier to have the burden of proving that a prescription is not medically necessary. It was a lengthy hearing, and the providers on the committee were adamant that prior authorization was in the doctor-patient relationship. Previously, these bills were already introduced in the Joint Insurance and Real Estate Committee, but the Senate Democrats forced the bills into Public Health. PCMA is working with the House Chair of Insurance and Real Estate to prevent these from reaching the House floor for a vote.
