In Review: Last week, there was a crucial hearing on the Governor’s prior authorization and step therapy Bill, HB 5395. The Governor’s office is reviewing suggested amendments including a proposed amendment that we offered through the Illinois Life and Health Association, seeking removal of the ban on prior authorization for drugs. There was also a discussion on drug costs and the PDAB bill with legislative leaders last week. PCMA was invited to be in the meeting to discuss the PBMs role in the drug supply chain. The Illinois Pharmacy Association was also in the meeting and tried to pivot to their perspective on PBMs, but the Chair and leadership promptly made it clear that those issues would not be the focus of that meeting.
Up Next: We await proposed amendments to HB5395 by late this week. The Illinois Legislature is on spring break this week, offering a brief pause in proceedings.
