In Review: Last week PCMA participated in the House Healthcare Availability and Accessibility hearing focused on the recent FTC interim report examining PBMs. Other panelists included the Director of the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI), Ann Gillispie, a representative from the long-term care pharmacies, and Antonio Ciaciaa of 3Axis Advisors. While there was some initial focus on the report, the conversation spilled into several other areas including how PBMs play into the calculation of MLR requirements, specialty drug designation and steering to affiliate pharmacies, and more. Up Next: Before adjourning, Leader Natalie Manley (D) noted that there would be an additional meeting(s) focused on specialty drugs. Additionally, the IDOI and the Governor’s office are focusing on how the Department can impact the MLR ‘issue’ and narrow the definition/designation of specialty drugs.
