Michigan Weekly Update 1.7.25

In Review: The lame duck session ended when sine die went into effect on December 31, 2024. During the lame duck session, legislation moved quickly and with very little notice. For example, SB 738, a bill mandating coverage of gene therapy, including CAR-T, received a public hearing and a committee vote and was placed on the Full Senate Calendar within a 24-hour period. PCMA members and stakeholders mobilized quickly to share concerns with SB 738, and as a result, a vote never took place on the bill and will not become law during this legislative session. PCMA was also successful in defeating two priority bills, HB 5339, relating to step therapy, and HB 4719, banning copay accumulators.

Up Next: The new legislative session will start on January 8.
