In Review: Last week, multiple bills restricting prior authorization and step therapy moved through committees in both chambers. Despite the state’s current healthcare funding gap of almost $100 million, the legislators approved restricting prior authorization for off-label use of prescriptions to treat rare diseases, banning cost sharing on drugs to treat high cholesterol, and restricting prior authorization on a host of health conditions from dialysis and chemotherapy to home health care and elder care. The 2025 session closes at noon on Saturday, March 22, but we are still watching to see whether the short clock is able to slow down some of these costly efforts.
