North Carolina Weekly Update 11.26.24

In Review: Last week, PCMA held an in-person meeting with members and local counsel to discuss the upcoming 2025 legislative session. While HB 246 remains bottled up in the Senate for the 2024 session, a PBM bill is in the works by Representative Heather Rhyne (R), a pharmacist and newer member to the House. The group discussed the new dynamics with Representative Wayne Sasser (R) (a pharmacist) retiring, other local factors, and ways to educate employers once legislation is filed in 2025. Additionally, PCMA met with House and Senate leadership staff and likely House Health Chairman, Representative Timothy Reeder (R) (a physician), who noted that PBM legislation will return.

Up Next: Local counsel will be requesting a meeting with Rep. Rhyne on a draft bill she is said to be drafting. Additionally, PCMA will be touching base with the Independent Insurance Agent and other groups who have engaged on HB 246.
