South Carolina Weekly Update 3.24.25

In Review: Last week, PCMA and the South Carolina Alliance of Health Plans (SC AHP) joined the ad hoc House committee on PBMS to present their roles in the marketplace. Following PCMA and SC AHP were PhRMA, NCPA, Johnson & Johnson, Independent Pharmacists of SC, ACS, SC Pharmacy Association, and Walgreens. Each group that followed PCMA and SC AHP focused on criticizing PBM practices related to rebates, 340B, vertical integration, delinking, and utilization management tools. During rebuttals, PCMA addressed claims made by other parties. When asked about lowering list prices, PhRMA avoided the question, pushing instead for PBM transparency and “delinking” PBM compensation.

Up Next: The next House ad hoc committee meeting is scheduled for April 8. Chairman Sessions is expected to decide which healthcare entities will present next. Additionally, the Senate Banking Insurance Committee will meet this week at 11:00 A.M., and PCMA has been invited to participate in the committee meeting. Our role here will be less formal, but we will be available to address any specific questions by committee members.
