Texas Weekly Update 1.8.24

In Review: While the Texas legislature will not convene in 2024, we are expecting a lot of activity in the Lone Star State. Last week, Governor Greg Abbott (R) appointed Mike McKinney, M.D., Golinda Erowele, Pharm.D., and Tony Schell to the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board for terms to expire at the pleasure of the Governor. The Governor named McKinney Chair of the Board. The Board is tasked with developing a business plan in accordance with HB 4990 that passed during the 2023 session. HB 4990 provided for a state-owned pharmaceutical initiative that provided for a PBM, among other entities in the supply chain. The Governor also appointed Garrett Marquis and Randy Martin, Pharm.D., and reappointed Rick Fernandez and Julie Spier to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Their terms are set to expire on August 31, 2029.
