Texas Weekly Update 2.10.25

In Review: Attorney General Paxton’s long-awaited opinion response arrived Wednesday last week, and it was not in PCMA or our members’ favor. Following the AG’s response, Senator Schwertner and Representative Tom Oliverson (R) filed similar bills that would apply all provisions in the insurance code section to all markets. PCMA responded quickly, signing onto a letter sent to Governor Greg Abbott (R) from the Texas Association of Business, the Texas Civil Justice League, the Texans for Lawsuit Reform, and the Texas Association of Health Plans. Included with the letter were the briefs filed to AG Paxton by the signed parties, and the NASCAR letter, signed by nearly 50 employers in Texas, expressing our concerns over the AG’s opinion and DOI’s encroachment on ERISA plans.

Up Next: PCMA anticipates that the House will finalize committee chairs and meeting schedules this week. Once that process is finalized, PCMA will schedule our session call to align with relevant meetings.
