New PCMA Ad Campaign: Reject Big Pharma’s Agenda Designed To Keep Drug Prices High By Undermining Pharmacy Benefits

Congress Must Protect Savings and Choices for Patients and Employers by Rejecting Big Pharma’s Scheme to Eliminate the One Check on Their Pricing Power

(Washington, D.C.) — The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) announced the launch of a new seven-figure advertising campaign Tuesday. The campaign includes broadcast and cable television advertising inside the Beltway, as well as digital advertising in Washington, D.C. and target states. The campaign will remind policymakers and the public that Big Pharma’s egregious pricing and anti-competitive practices are the root cause of high prescription drug prices and encourage lawmakers to reject Big Pharma’s blame game designed to keep drug prices high by targeting cost-saving pharmacy benefits.

“Lobbying groups for the pharmaceutical industry have spent tens of millions of dollars of paid advertising aimed at putting a target on the one check-and-balance on their pricing power – pharmacy benefit companies, who provide savings for patients, employers and plan sponsors – in order to keep prescription drug prices high,” said PCMA President and CEO JC Scott. “Misguided proposals targeting pharmacy benefits come straight from their playbook and are designed to undermine the one check-and-balance on drug companies’ pricing power.”

“Congress must reject these efforts to divert attention away from drug companies’ pricing decisions and resist legislation that would limit pharmacy benefits, legislation that the pharma lobby is trying to position as a solve-all to make prescription drugs more affordable,” Scott continued. “To truly deliver lower prescription drug prices for patients, Congress must enact actual drug pricing legislation. That means rejecting the smoke-and-mirrors scheme to distract and finally cracking down on the abuses of the patent system that limit competition and reigning in high drug prices once and for all.”
