PCMA Applauds Passage of New Jersey Legislation

(Washington, D.C.) — The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) released the following statement on passage of prescription drug legislation in New Jersey.

“PCMA applauds the New Jersey Assembly for passing S2690 / A3993 / A 2214, legislation that will help ensure New Jersey’s patients always pay the lowest cost for their medications at the pharmacy counter, whether it’s the cash price or the patient’s cost-sharing. This important legislation mirrors federal law that PBMs have supported.

Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) are the only entities in the drug supply chain whose mission is to lower costs, serving as the primary advocate on behalf of consumers in the fight to keep prescription drugs accessible and affordable.

In fact, in New Jersey PBMs will save over $19 billion over the 10-year period from 2016-2025 on prescription drugs.

We commend the bill sponsors for their leadership on this important issue.”
